Minneapolis Amends Sick Leave Law
Minneapolis has approved major amendments to its sick leave ordinance, aligning many provisions with Minnesota’s statewide paid sick leave law. Beginning December 31, all employers with employees in Minneapolis must comply with updated rules covering paid leave, employee eligibility, permitted uses, notice requirements, and pay statement obligations.
Key changes include:
- Required paid sick leave for covered employees and a clarified definition of base rate of pay.
- Updated eligibility rules for employees working at least 80 hours per year in the city.
- Expanded permitted uses, including care needs, public emergencies, communicable disease risk, and bereavement related matters.
- Updated carryover and frontloading options.
- New notice, poster, documentation, and pay statement requirements.
